Queer and Rostered: Thriving in the ELCA

LGBTQIA+ History Month Online Series
Being a queer rostered leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America can be both deeply rewarding and uniquely
challenging. Many queer pastors and deacons find great joy in serving authentically, bringing the fullness of their identities
into ministry, and offering visible witness to God’s inclusive love. Their presence often provides hope and affirmation to
LGBTQ+ members, seekers, and young people discerning their own vocations.
At the same time, queer rostered leaders may face challenges such as navigating differing levels of acceptance across
congregations and communities, managing the emotional labor of representation, and responding to prejudice or
misunderstanding both within and beyond the church. Despite these challenges, many describe their ministry as a
powerful testament to the diverse gifts God calls into service for the sake of the Gospel.
This three-part online series invites
LGBTQ+ rostered leaders into a time of learning and conversation. All sessions are 7 – 8:30 pm, EDT.
